Have you ever gotten tips about how to make your mornings easier?

I love to look up things that help me improve my morning routines, and the tip that I see more than any other is this:

Prepare as much as you can the night before.

It’s no coincidence that this is what everyone says. It makes sense to think that a successful endeavour is pretty dependent on sufficient planning beforehand.

The same can be said about effective goal-setting: when you prepare for new goals, you need to plan for success.

"If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. Benjamin Franklin"

Today, I want to share how to achieve your goals by preparing for those goals ahead of time.

But before I do that, I want to make one thing clear: though we may want to plan for success, it is equally important to be okay with failure.

Failing to succeed is not something we need to fear, because there is value in our failures.

They teach us what we can do better, and they help us to become more resilient as human beings. When we’ve given our best effort and still fail, that is nothing to be ashamed of.

How to achieve your goals and dreams by preparing for them properly beforehand (7 Steps)

"How to achieve your goals & dreams by preparing for them properly beforehand."

1. Edit your goals to make sure they are clear and concise

It can be easy to create a goal quickly and want to start it right away.

But when you are aiming for more effective goal-setting, it’s important to consider how well your goal is constructed.

You will want to make sure that your goal is a SMART goal, as it will help ensure that your expectations are clear and measurable.

This step alone will make it much easier for you to plan for success.

2. Make a visual reminder of your new goals

When you introduce something new into your life, it can be hard to remember it from day to day.

It would be easy to forget about your goals if you are not reminded of them every day.

To make sure you don’t forget about the goals you are working towards, it helps to create a visual reminder of what you are aiming for.

Write down your goals and put them on display, or create a symbol that will serve as a reminder of what you want to achieve.

Get creative in the ways you want to display your goals and put them everywhere to keep you thinking about what you set out to do.

3. Write the significant dates in a calendar

Your goal may be simple, but it still helps to chunk it into smaller pieces so that you can pace yourself as you aim to achieve it.

Write deadlines in your calendar of times that you want to have certain steps to your goal achieved.

If it is a small goal that doesn’t require little steps, then just make sure that this one deadline is made clear in your calendar.

4. Schedule times to check in with your progress

To prepare for new goals, it helps to plan time to check in on how you are doing.

This way, you won’t forget to assess your progress before the actual deadline.

Being able to reflect on what’s working and what isn’t will make it easier for you to readjust and achieve those goals!

5. Set up a support system

Effective goal-setting often involves more than one person.

The determination of one person can be made so much stronger when they have a friend cheering for them.

So when you are making plans to start your next goal, tell someone about it!

How to achieve your goals more easily by setting up an accountability team:

  • Join an online group of like-minded people
  • Tell a friend or family member about your plan
  • Do something consistently on social media so that you are held accountable by your audience
  • Establish a reward system for yourself if you respect your goals

6. Gather the materials you need to help you succeed

If you set a goal that is going to require certain materials, you are going to automatically struggle if you don’t have those materials readily available.

For example, if your goal is to drink more water, but you didn’t get a water bottle that you could carry with you everywhere, you’ve already made that task much harder to accomplish.

Plan for success by figuring out what sort of materials might help aid you and make sure you have them before you start your goal.

7. Do a no-pressure practice run before you start officially

I like to do this one because I find that, whenever I introduce a new habit into my routine, I crash and burn the first time I try it out.

It’s too much all at once and I find it very discouraging.

If you are at all like this, then I would advise you to try this tip next time you set a new goal.

Instead of starting a new goal all at once, give yourself a few practice days that are no pressure.

This gives you a chance to get a feel for the new habit without feeling like you have to jump right off the deep end.

Additionally, if you need a longer transition time, you can also introduce your new goal in phases.

Maybe the first week, you only aim to try for your goal once a week, then twice and three times and so on until you’ve reached your goal.

Do something that works for you, not what you feel would look most impressive to others.

These are all the tips I have on how to achieve a goal successfully.

You can try some or all of the tips to help you prepare for new goals, but remember that you are unique and don’t need to prescribe to all of the advice given to you.

Test them out and see what works for your individual needs and preferences. Good luck with developing your own style of effective goal-setting!
