Keeping a house clean is not as easy as it sounds.

There are so many tasks to keep track of, and not all of those tasks need to be done at the same intervals.

When I first took on the role of ‘homemaker’, I was overwhelmed by the number of cleaning tasks I had to keep track of. I just knew I was going to forget a monthly task at some point down the line.

But then came a lifesaver.

While browsing through organizational apps for my phone, I came across an app called “Tody”. I decided to test it out, and, to my delight, it helped me immensely

Today I want to share what this app is about and how you can use it in your own life to keep track of all of the different routines and tasks you have to manage!

Tody: The Free App That will Change the Way you Clean

"The best cleaning app to keep track of your cleaning schedule for free!"

What is Tody?

Essentially, Tody is a cleaning app.

First, you input your cleaning preferences by identifying which chores you’d like to do around the house.

Once you’ve done that, you set how often you want to do that chore. After that, you check off what you’ve done and the app will tell you when it’s time to do that chore again.

Tody is basically a personal assistant that writes your to-do list for you every day.

When you open your app, it will have a list of the cleaning tasks that you need to get done that day. When you complete it, you simply press a button that says “just did it”.  In response, Tody will reset the count and keep track of how many days it’s been since you last cleaned.

You never have to worry about forgetting to do the little things anymore.

If you want to clean your windows once every 48 days, Tody will keep track of the last time you cleaned them and remind you to do it again once it’s been 48 days.

It is a HUGE time-saver, especially for those of us who struggle to remember tasks that need to be done at consistent intervals of time.

6 Reasons Why Tody is the Best App for your Cleaning Routine

Reason #1: It is Minimalist.

The structure of the app itself is simple and inviting.

There are no complicated buttons, no gimmicks, and no flashy sounds or images.

For this reason, it also requires very little previous knowledge to use. You won’t have to spend hours trying to figure out the app before making use of it.

Reason #2: It is improving regularly.

The developers of this app did not simply create it and walk away.

In fact, you can really feel the care they have for it and how much they want it to work for you.

They are regularly making small improvements to the app according to the feedback they receive.

I don’t usually care much for updates, but I actually really appreciate the changes they have made every time.

Reason #3: It makes cleaning more fun and satisfying!

Even though it’s not a flashy app, Tody does add a few details that make cleaning a bit more gamified.

It is so satisfying to have a list of tasks to tackle each day, and it is especially enjoyable to click that button when you complete it.

Additionally, the sound effects add a little bit of a fun atmosphere to the chores.

Reason #4: It’s highly customizable.

Though there is an option for the premium account, you also have a lot of customizing options in the free account.

Tody will keep track of your tasks based on your “Attitude” towards cleaning.

In the settings, you are able to choose whether you’d prefer a more relaxed attitude towards cleaning, or if you are the more proactive type of cleaner.

Depending on your preferences, you will be reminded of your chores at different times.

You can also customize exactly what you need to clean and how often.

You can add an array of different rooms and put whatever chores you want in it; it’s up to you! You can even customize how many times you want to do those chores.

Finally, you can decide who you want to do each chore.

You can set up multiple users and have other people take on some of the chores.

Tody has an impressive amount of customization, and it is the main thing that makes cleaning your own home so much easier

Reason #5: It has analytics.

Ok, I’m a bit of a nerd about analytics.

I love keeping track of personal statistics with things like habit trackers and website records.

If you’re not into that stuff, then this isn’t exactly a desirable feature for you. But if you are into analytics, then you will love this app!

It keeps track of all of your chore achievements, and you can see your habits for each chore in a visual chart. It will give you a good idea about what chores you are often late to complete and what chores always get done right on time.

Reason #6: It saves you time.

This is the biggest draw to me.

Tody does not add any distractions to your routine. It does nothing but save you time!

Tody can be a bit time-consuming to customize everything the first time you use it, but every day after that saves you an incredible amount of time.

Instead of re-writing your cleaning list and trying to keep track of the dates yourself, Tody monitors your progress and tells you exactly when you need to do each task.

In other words, you think of the information one time, and Tody remembers it and keeps track of it every day after that.

Small Downsides to the Tody App…

The first downside is that Tody does not make any real attempt at motivation.

After you click the “I’m done” button, it will write a quick “Good job” or “Better late than never”, but it’s really not a great cheerleader.

I personally like that it’s not flashy, but for those who really need the motivation to get stuff done, this might not be the app for you.

Additionally, I was a little disappointed that this app is only really designed for cleaning tasks.

It clearly has the potential to be used for more than that, but aesthetically, it only has pictures about cleaning.

Both of these issues are more related to personal preference, but they are worth mentioning.

Is this cleaning app for me?

Tody is great for a number of people. The ones I mention here are not all-encompassing, but they are the people who I think would appreciate it the most:

If you are new to cleaning and caring for your personal space, this app is for you!

I would have loved to have Tody in university to remind me when to do my dishes. It’s embarrassing the number of times I found mould in my dishes because of my inability to clean them in good time…

Tody is good for anyone with a personal space that needs upkeep.

This could be a garden, a home, a dorm, or even an office space. If you have an area that needs daily, weekly or monthly cleaning, Tody can help.

If you need reminders to do regular, everyday tasks, and keeping track of all of these tasks stresses you out, this app is a lifesaver!

I get horrible anxiety trying to keep track of recurring chores, and Tody relieved me of so many of those reminders.

Tody is great for family households!

It’s a fun way to keep track of what chores have been done and what is still left to do, and it is easy to assign people to different tasks.

How to use this free cleaning app in your own cleaning routine

Because Tody is so customizable, there are lots of ways that you can use it. But if you don’t want to decide for yourself, I have included step-by-step instructions on how to set up your app:

Step 1: Do your research

Before you set up your own app, you need to have an idea of what you want to do in your own space to keep it clean.

Remember, you get to customize it to your own preferences, so you need to know how you would like your space to look.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What areas do I want to clean?
  • What do I want to do in each area to keep it clean?
  • Do I want to keep everything really clean, or do I want to clean it after it looks a little messy?
  • How often do I want to clean each room?

You don’t need to know all of the answers now, but it’s good to consider them before you actually input the information onto Tody.

Additionally, you can do a bit of searching for some templates that already tell you what you should be cleaning and how often.

When you’re done your research, you can start putting in your information onto the app itself.

Step 2: Input the rooms you want to clean

Find the “+Area” button on your app and choose a room from the list provided. If the room you want is not listed, you can make your own name under “Custom”.

Next, press “Create”.

Once you do that, there will now be an option to select that room and customize the cleaning you want done there.

Step 3: Input the chores you want done in each room

First, you need to select the room you want to add chores to. Once you do, you will see a “+Task” button.

Select that and create your chore.

I would recommend first scrolling through the options they already provide, as there is a lot you probably want to use. You can choose from Basic tasks, Special tasks, or custom tasks.

Next, you need to choose how often you want to do that task. Tody already offers suggestions, but you can adjust those according to your needs.

You can also identify whether you want it to be a regular chore or if you just want to do that chore during a particular season.

When you create a new task, it will also ask you the current state of that chore, from clean to overdue for a cleaning.

Step 4: Do what Tody tells you to do!

The last step is pretty easy.

Now that you’ve given all the information, Tody keeps track of each chore and will give you a list of the things that need to get done each day.

All you have to do is complete the task and select “Just did it!” The app will keep track of everything for you.

Other uses for the app

As I’ve mentioned before, Tody was made with the intention of cleaning, but I have lately been toying with the idea of using it for other things I need to keep track of, as well.

Here is a list of some of the other things you could keep track of by using this app:

  • Hygiene tasks
  • Pet Care
  • Appointments
  • Blogging Tasks
  • Habits
  • Maintenance
  • Social Skills

Really, I think this app could be used as a general to-do list for any recurring tasks.

I’ve tried other habit tracking apps but, to be honest, I really haven’t found it easy to stick to them.

How I use this app to track my blogging tasks

To use this app for more than cleaning, I followed steps 1-4 as usual, but I customized it differently.

I selected the office as my “area” (because the icon suits blogging the best) and then renamed it “Blog Tasks”.

Then, I just created my own custom tasks.

A screenshot of the Tody app.
This is what my page looks like for my blogging tasks. You can see that the “office” category looks fitting for this category!

It’s simple, and it’s the easiest way I’ve found to keep track of everything that needs to get done.

If you are anything like me, you probably need some help keeping track of all the things that need to get done throughout the week. Instead of trying to do it all yourself, try Tody! It will help you keep track of everything without any stress.

With this app, you will never forget a chore again!
