In nature, seasons are a part of life.

Some places have more seasons than others. However, everyone around the world can agree that nature doesn’t stay exactly the same from day to day. And I think we can all agree that these changes in weather are good for the earth.

As humans, we also have ‘seasons of life’, and they are just as important!

But it is hard to accept all of these seasons in our lives. Some of them are far less pleasant than others. But society has taught us that we always need to be in a season of productivity and abundance. When we’re not, we’re made to believe that this equals failure.

"How to find perfect peace in every season of life."

Let me tell you why I started my blog…

I started to see this “hustle mentality” myself some time ago.

I hated that people who are already hurting feel even worse because they know that, to others, their negative emotions are some sort of sign of their own failure.

This is absolutely NOT the case!

Our difficult seasons are made even more difficult because we feel the pressure to perform in the midst of all of it.

I created this blog because of the passion I feel towards a community of people who never feel like they measure up.

No one should EVER feel like they’re not good enough. I hope that my blog can help people feel unique and valued as a perfect creation of God.

We can definitely strive to improve ourselves (which is why I have articles loaded with self-improvement tips).

But we also need to remember that every season has value.

Even the difficult seasons, or the seasons where we barely get out of bed.

Every moment matters, not just the ones we can share on social media.

The Biblical inspiration for my blog comes from a passage in the book of Ecclesiastes. It goes like this:

There is a time for everything,

And a season for every activity under heaven:

A time to be born and a time to die,

A time to plant and a time to uproot,

A time to kill and a time to heal,

A time to tear down and a time to build,

A time to weep and a time to laugh,

A time to mourn and a time to dance,

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

A time to embrace and a time to refrain,

A time to search and a time to give up,

A time to keep and a time to throw away,

A time to tear and a time to mend,

A time to be silent and a time to speak,

A time to love and a time to hate,

A time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Not all of these times are things we look forward to, but they arrive just the same.

In order for us to find peace in each season, we first have to recognize two truths.

The first truth is that we all go through many different seasons.

The second truth is that our seasons are timed uniquely to us. No one else has the exact same experiences as we do.

By recognizing these two things, we can find freedom in accepting our experiences as they come without comparing ourselves to others.

Important Truths about Life that Will Help You Find Peace in Every Season

Truth #1: We all go through many different seasons of life

All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Psalm 139:16

There are times when many people experience the same thing at once. For example, when global disasters happen, or when we celebrate statute holidays.

But for the most part, we walk an individual road full of unique paths that shape us every day.

No one else is like you, and no one experiences or has experienced the world as you have.

Your story is uniquely crafted to YOU, and your story has never been told before.

Sometimes, I like to imagine a library that has all of humankind’s stories in it.

Each human’s name is on one massive book, and each book holds a unique and detailed story.

Imagine we all had the same story- what a boring library that would be, and what a boring world we would live in!

The chapters in your life that make up your own personal story are all valuable. They don’t need to be compared to anyone else’s.

Truth #2: Our seasons are timed uniquely to us. No one has the exact same experiences as we do.

Oftentimes, when we notice that other people have different experiences than us, we start to wish that we were progressing the same way as them.

Have you ever looked at a person your age and wished you had accomplished as much as they have already?

Or maybe you’ve been to a friend’s baby shower and thought, “Baby shower!? I’m not even married yet- what am I doing with my life?!”

There is no ideal formula for life.

Our seasons of life come and go at different paces and in different orders.

There is no formula that is better than another.

Your friend has pretty much secured a job for life and you’re still getting your degree? That’s ok! Everyone is moving at the pace that is right for them.

It’s not a race. It’s not a competition.

It is your life, and everything in it is happening in its proper time for you

So what do we do in these seasons if we are just supposed to accept them as they come?

Just because some of these seasons are not fully within our control doesn’t mean that we are just supposed to sit around doing nothing, waiting for the next season to come around.

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 provides a good definition for what we can do instead:

Then I realized that it is good and proper

for a man to eat and drink,

and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun

during the few days of life God has given him- for this is his lot.

Moreover,

when God gives any man wealth and possessions,

and enables him to enjoy them,

to accept his lot and be happy in his work-

this is a gift of God.

He seldom reflects on the days of his life

because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20

Ok, so we’ve established that there is no need to compare our lives.

We can say with confidence that our lives are unique to us and that we don’t have to EVER feel like our lives aren’t worth living.

It is not necessary to be running at lightning speed.

We just have to take the next small step forward.

But now what?

As you move through each season of your life, there are some things that you can choose to do to feel more at peace with where you are.

Stop looking at other people’s lives and see what you can do in your own life to live it to the fullest.

How to Find Peace by Making These 4 Choices in Every Season of Life

Choice #1: In each season of life, choose to enjoy the bounty of God’s creation.

Regardless of the season you are in, God always has something you can be thankful for.

In times of hardship, perhaps it is simply a cool glass of water or the scent of flowers on your walk to work that you appreciate.

In times of bounty, perhaps it is a family feast that you enjoy.

Whatever season you’re in, you can always choose to be thankful for the things God has provided for you to enjoy.

Choice #2: In each season of life, choose to work to the best of your ability.

Whether you have a paying job or not, there is always work that you can do for God.

For example, it could be cleaning your house, writing essays or stories, volunteering at the food bank, or carrying groceries for a friend.

Whatever the season, there are ways for you to continue to give your all in whatever work you choose to do.

Choice #3: In each season of life, choose to accept what comes to you.

Sometimes God gives a man wealth and possessions, but this does not happen to everyone.

No matter how much or how little we are given, we are advised to ‘accept our lots’, recognizing that all of it is a gift from God himself.

He wants you to enjoy it and make good use of it!

Choice #4: In each season of life, choose to live fully in that season.

It is important for people to reflect on themselves so that they can work towards improvement in areas they can control.

However, reflection should be avoided if it just leads you to wish for simpler times or desire someone else’s life.

Keep yourself engaged in the time you’re in, and don’t spend all your time wishing for a season that has already passed.

In the same way, don’t spend your current season worrying about seasons to come.

This is a personal problem that I have.

When I am in a season of joy and comfort, I sometimes spend time in that season worrying about when it is all going to get taken away from me.

I know this is not a healthy way to live, so I put a lot of effort into trying to simply exist in my current season, enjoying what it has for me and trusting that the next season will provide for me as well, even if it turns out to be more difficult.

Thank you for sharing this wisdom. Accepting that your seasons are unique to you is a great life lesson. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others. Acknowledging you are on your own unique path is very freeing, but it’s a difficult lesson for some to learn.

It is true that there is a time i life for each thing. For me it is nothing related with religion, it is a question of accepting and being able to see the beauty of each moment.

#4 resonates with me so much right now! After a tumultuous couple of years (on the family front) , I’m finally able accept / know my own truth and enjoy / live in it! No one can take that away unless I allow it, so full steam ahead!

Thank you for this thoughtful post Genesis! I love how you pinpoint that each season is unique to us. We shouldn’t compare a hard season in our lives to an easier season in someone else’s. We need to keep trusting God, the great and good Author of our story!

Well said, Lisa! Comparison gets us nowhere because our stories are not ever meant to be the same.
