Every season comes with its own ups and downs, and fall is no exception.

This beautiful season has a pleasant chill in the air, colourful leaves falling from every tree, and some delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables.

But fall also comes with dryness and more difficult weather for the body to handle.

It leaves your body with a sense of tiredness and deficiency.

Moreover, fall sets the tone for your body’s endurance during the winter months. If you are able to transition comfortably into fall, the winter months will also go more smoothly.

If you don’t take care of your body in this crucial season, it will make things more difficult to handle in the winter.

I am going to share with you today a suggested fall morning routine that can help your body thrive in the midst of seasonal changes. My information is largely taken from Ayurvedic principles, as Ayurveda is a practice that finds great importance in seasonal living.

Remember, however, that everybody is unique.

Some of these tips will work for you, while others will not. Experiment with your morning routines and try to find out what works best for your body.

With that in mind, let’s dive right in!

Your Perfect Fall Morning Routine for a Better Season

10:00 pm (or earlier): Go to Bed

Fall is a crucial time for consistent schedules and lots of sleep.

Whether or not you use this suggested time frame for sleep, try to make sure that you get 8 hours every night.

Your body will be working hard during this season to keep the immune system strong.

You need to try to do your part by making your schedule consistent and healthy.

Getting a good night’s sleep is part of that.

6:00 am: Wake up and drink some warm lemon water

No matter what season you’re in, it’s always important to drink lots of water.

However, you can change the way you drink your water to help your body in each season, too.

In the fall, your body will be a little more tired than usual because it has to adjust to the weather as it gets colder. Your digestion might get a little lethargic for the same reason.

To help this along, it’s good to feed your body things that will be easy to digest and (preferably) warm.

Lemon water helps ease the digestion process already, and the warmth of the water will help heat up your body right away.

6:15 am: Do Morning Pages for reflection

As fall is a transition season, it is beneficial to have the chance to detox physically and emotionally.

That means that you will need lots of time for thinking and reflecting over this time.

One way you can do lots of reflection is by doing Morning Pages every day. They will help you get out all of those thoughts and emotions so that you are more equipped to handle your day.

Don’t know how to do morning pages?

Don’t worry!

I’ve created a Morning Pages Package that will provide you with all of the materials you need. With this free package, you will get a message of motivation, a printable 3-page-template to write your morning pages, and prompts that you can use to help give you writing ideas.

6:45 am: Practice a Restorative Exercise Routine

Because your body is not exactly at its full capacity, fall is reserved for athletic activities that have restorative and gentle qualities.

This doesn’t mean you will not work as hard. It simply means that the activities should not leave you with injuries or muscles that are too tired.

You should be avoiding overexertion.

Look for activities that are grounding and require focus more than energy.

Examples of exercises to try in your fall morning routine

Tai Chi

This form of movement requires a great deal of focus, but it also requires balance and strength.

The need for balance will help ground you, and you will be able to improve your strength without overexerting yourself.

You can check out a local Tai Chi center or do it from home. Here is a YouTube video with a complete lesson to get you started.

Yin Yoga

Yoga is great for all seasons, but Yin Yoga will give you the most benefits in the fall.

It is slower and puts a bigger focus on small movements and breathing. This will give you a good workout for your muscles, but its focus on breathing with leave you feeling more refreshed than tired.

Again, you can find Yin Yoga classes at a nearby yoga studio, or you can follow one on Youtube. Boho Beautiful is my personal favourite: here is one of her Yin Yoga sequences.

There are a lot of yoga videos out there, though, so just take a look around and see what’s best for you!

Walking or Hiking

With the weather so beautiful in the fall, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to explore it!

Luckily, this is one of the highly recommended activities for the fall.

Just be careful not to go too crazy on the activity. Take it slow and enjoy your surroundings.

Keep moving, but don’t feel the need to break a sweat. A half-hour walk will suffice for one session.

7:30 am: Eat a Hearty, Warming Breakfast

After a gentle workout to wake up your body, head to the kitchen and grab yourself a nice, warm meal.

As the weather gets colder, our food should get warmer.

So instead of cold cereal, opt for warm oatmeal. Instead of cold fruits, try to warm them up and sprinkle some extra spices (like cinnamon) on them.

They will taste delicious AND help your body have an easier time digesting them.

Suggested Fall Foods

Opt for heavier, oilier foods than you have in the summer.

Go for foods that taste sweet, sour, and salty.

You can try some sweet dates filled with delicious nut/seed butters.

Seasonal fall veggies like carrots, beets, and pumpkins are a great option. Soups are also a wonderful thing this time of year, as they are warm and easy to digest.

Suggested Fall Spices

Turmeric is a great spice that helps improve blood flow.

This will help to keep your whole body warm during the colder seasons. You can also use cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg to relax and warm your body.

Breakfast Options for your Fall Morning Routine

To get you started with some ideas, here are a few recipes that you and your body will love!

Pumpkin Pie Pancakes

8:00 am: Warming and Moisturizing Shower Routine

This step has a few mini-steps in there that are going to make a big difference during the fall months.

Instead of simply hopping in the shower and quickly washing off, try to take some extra time to turn this into a restorative, relaxing, and warming spa time.

Fall things to do during shower time that will help your overall health:

Use a Neti Pot to Clear the Sinuses

We are prone to getting sick around this time of year.

Coughs, colds, and ear infections are serious possibilities, so it’s a good idea to clean out those sinuses as often as possible. A Neti Pot will help you do that.

Basically, it is a simple device that flushes water through your nasal passage to clean it out.

You put a tea-pot-looking contraption into your nostril and pour it through until it comes out the other nostril.

I’ll tell you right now, it looks super awkward, and it is hard to get the hang of (I accidentally swallowed that water so many times before I was finally able to get it coming out the other nostril)!

However, it also makes a HUGE difference and is worth the initial struggle.

You can buy the Neti Pot on Amazon here:

Self-Massage Before Showering

Treating yourself to a massage has so many amazing benefits, and they are all important for the fall season.

It will help to get the blood flowing in the body, which will keep you healthier overall.

Additionally, if you tend to get cold throughout the day, this routine will greatly help you. Finally, the oil will serve to keep you moisturized throughout the day.

Now, I’m all about coconut oil, which you can use easily.

However, the ideal oil for this season is sesame oil.

Sesame oil has warming properties, while coconut oil is a cooling oil (which is why it’s great for summer). If you want to get the most benefits, sesame oil is the way to go.

Just warm a little bit in your hands and massage your body in circular motions from head to toe.

For more details on how to give yourself a great self-massage (also called Abhyanga, follow this helpful video!

Though you can do this part after showering, you will get the best moisturizing and warming benefits from doing it before your shower.

You will leave your shower feeling so good!

8:30 am: Finish Getting Ready

That covers everything for your fall morning routine!

When you’ve finished with all the other steps, go ahead and get dressed and do whatever else needs to be done that morning!

Make sure that you dress for warmth.

If you are prone to chills in the fall, opt for warm sweaters that will keep your core warm.

And don’t plan too much more for your morning.

Stress is a particularly difficult thing for your body to handle in the fall, so staying relaxed is key!

I hope that this fall morning routine has gotten you excited to come up with your own routine for fall!

I personally Iove morning routines and I will make up any excuse to design a new routine. Have some fun with it, and try out a few different things to make your routine work for you!

Remember, each person is unique and requires different things.

This suggested fall morning routine might be a good starting point, but it’s up to YOU to experiment from there! Have fun crafting your own unique morning!
