Seasons are such a pleasant way to move the year along.

Fall Outdoor Activities

One of the BEST parts of fall is the gorgeous outdoor scenery, so get outside and look around!

There is so much to do, and the weather is perfect for lots of fall-themed activities.

It’s a time when it is neither too hot nor too cold, so you can spend a bit more time than usual in the outdoors. Take advantage of that with this fall to-do list.

1. Go on a Photography Walk

Take your camera (or your phone) and walk around your neighbourhood.

As you stroll through your nearby area, take pictures of the things that you find beautiful.

Maybe it’s the way the houses look with all of the leaves changing colour, or perhaps it’s the way the ground looks with vibrant colours settling on top of it.

Whatever it is, take a photo to admire later.

2. Go on a Hike

Fall is the season for long walks.

You won’t have to worry about getting too hot or freezing in the cold.

You can enjoy the natural surroundings for as long as you want!

Take a look at what your own town offers at your nearest preservation parks and trails, and go exploring!

3. Play an Outdoor Game

Play some frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee, bocce ball, or spike ball. There are so many fun options that are ideal to play in the cool weather.

The products listed below can help you try out some of these fun sports yourself!

4. Rake the Leaves

Who says that chores can’t be fun?

Clean up your yard (or even your neighbour’s yard) and enjoy the sensations of the season as you do it.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the enjoyment you’ll get from it!

5. Jump in a Pile of Leaves

You’re never too old to jump in the autumn leaves!

Have a bit of fun this season and jump to your heart’s content.

6. Go through a Corn Maze or a Hay Maze

If any are available to you, this activity is a fun way to let out your inner child, as well!

7. Go Apple Picking

This is my personal favourite!

Apples never taste better than in the fall.

So go on out to the nearest apple farm and pick a few for yourself!

Food always tastes better when you collected it yourself.

8. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Honestly, I can’t explain what makes a pumpkin patch so satisfying, but it really is such a lovely and enjoyable thing to do.

Maybe even grab a pumpkin to take home with you for more fall-themed activities (I’ll get to them later)!

9. Have a Bonfire and Roast Marshmallows

Bring some friends and enjoy a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and s’mores.

Feel the physical AND emotional warmth it brings.

Indoor fall activities: build a fall aesthetic

When you are trying to get into the fall mood, it helps to try to create a fall aesthetic within your home.

There are two fall aesthetics that work nicely with this season. The first is a more Halloween vibe, which prefers the orange and black combo.

The second is a Thanksgiving mood, which opts for orange and brown and tries to reflect the colours of fall leaves.

You can pick whichever colours you like that get you in the mood for fall.

10. Put Fall Nature all Over Your Home

Get leaves from outside to decorate your house.

Put pumpkins everywhere.

Fill your vases with sunflowers and fall foliage.

Lay acorns in bowls.

Let nature inspire your home decor for the season!

On the flip side, if you’d prefer to go a little less natural, adding a bit of subtle home decor with online purchases is another good option!

11. Do Crafts with Fall Leaves

There are lots of really cool things you can do with the pretty leaves you find on your nature walks. Try a few of them in your home. The crafts are always inexpensive and easy to do!

Check out a few ideas here:

12. Do Crafts with Pine Cones

Another great craft item gifted to us by God, pine cones are full of crafting potential!

Try some of these fall-themed activities:

13. Rotate Your Wardrobe

Put away the florals and pastels for the time being and bring out the darker hues in your wardrobe!

It’s time to pull out the thick scarves, the stylish boots, and the flannel shirts!

Take a trip to the thrift store and see if you can find yourself any fun hats or cozy, oversized sweaters.

Crack out the fluffy reading socks for coziness around the home.

These small things are such simple pleasures to enjoy as the autumn chill approaches.

14. Bring out the Blankets and Candles

Put away the light linens of summer and take out your heavier blankets and fall-scented candles.

There is nothing better than cuddling up to a lit flame with a book, a spiced drink, and a soft blanket.

It’s time to turn up the comfort!

15. Listen to a Fall Playlist

Fall is all about the campfire sounds!

Acoustic indie music is a great place to start.

On Youtube, you could check out Alex Rainbird’s channel. They make indie playlists that are seasonal.

On Spotify, I’d recommend the “Sweater Weather Instrumentals” playlist.

16. Make a Fall Potpourri

If you’re not into candles, another way to make your home smell like fall is to make your own stove-top potpourri. Check out this site for a great recipe!

17. Make a Fall Vision Board

My favourite way to do vision boards is through Pinterest.

Make a board that is full of the images you love about fall.

OR you can just follow my fall aesthetics vision board on Pinterest!

You’ll get lots of great autumn feels there.

Get into the Seasonal Social and Holiday Activities

With Halloween and Thanksgiving around the corner, there are a lot of fall-themed activities that you can do to have a great time with friends or on your own.

18. Watch some Holiday-Themed Shows

Whether you are alone or with friends, this is a great way to get in the mood for fall.

Watch some Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus or The Nightmare Before Christmas. You can also watch some spooky or witchy television shows, like Sabrina or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Another thing that I often like to do is watch the holiday specials of certain shows.

Friends is my personal favourite when it comes to Thanksgiving specials. How I Met Your Mother also has some pretty fantastic Thanksgiving episodes to get you in the mood.

19. Prepare Your Halloween Costume

The most memorable costumes are always the ones you spend time creating.

Brainstorm some ideas with friends and take the time to collect the right materials and make them yourself!

If you’re no good at sewing, the next best thing is to see what you can make by mixing and matching things you find at the thrift store.

So much fun!

20. Carve a Pumpkin

This activity is definitely way more fun when done in a group.

Carve your own pumpkin with any image you like.

It doesn’t have to be a face, either! My friends and I usually like doing a picture of our favourite television characters.

You can also paint if carving just isn’t enjoyable to you.

21. Read Some Spooky Stories

If you’re wanting something quick and child-like, Goosebumps is a great place to start.

Personally, I’m all about Stephen King. Any of his books will get you in a spooky Halloween mood quickly.

22. Go to a Drive-In Movie Theatre

If you are lucky enough to have a drive-in theatre nearby, take some friends and have a movie night!

Bring your favourite fall snacks and enjoy the atmosphere while you watch the movie.

23.Visit the Local Farmer’s Market

No place does seasonal living better than a farmer’s market!

Everything they sell is in season, so you don’t have to go sifting through all of the food to find the stuff that is no longer in season.

One of my favourite fall memories is walking to the farmers marking and getting fresh apple cider and homemade cinnamon-sugar donuts. Mmmmm!

24. Practice Thankfulness

In this season of Thanksgiving, it is good to practice a little bit of thankfulness for what we have.

Leading up to Thanksgiving, start recording some of the things you are thankful for.

When the Thanksgiving holiday finally arrives, you will have a whole list of things you have already shown thankfulness for.

25. Have a Friendsgiving

If you can’t possibly wait that long for Thanksgiving to arrive, then make your own holiday earlier than that!

Have a Friendsgiving, where you invite friends over for a turkey dinner instead of family.

If you don’t want the stress of preparing a whole meal, I’d recommend doing this potluck-style. It’s much less stressful that way.

26.Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen or a Food Bank

Since fall is when we start to get back into routines, it is a good transition time to consider signing up to help at various charity organizations.

You can help out at a lot of places around your town.

Enjoy the Tastes of Fall

These last fall-themed activities are all about food and drinks!

It is good for your body to make changes to your eating routine as the seasons change.

Your body requires different things to help it remain at its best in each season.

Additionally, new flavours help you to connect more deeply with the season you’re in.

Here are some of the flavours you might want to add to your fall menu:

27. Add Pumpkin and Squash flavours to everything!

There are so many fun things you can do with both ingredients. Look up some ideas for yourself and try them out!

Don’t forget to roast the pumpkin seeds, too!

I’ve got four examples here to get you started:

28. Enjoy apples in all its forms

Apples never taste better than they do in the fall, so take advantage of their delicious flavour and make your own yummy treats!

Here are some recipes to get you started:

29. Make more Chilies and Soups

When the summer months turn cold, a warm soup or a hearty chilli really hits the spot!

Try out some of these today:

30. Enjoy some Trail Mix on a hike

If you plan on going out on all those hikes this season, you might want to consider making some trail mix to help keep you nourished out there!

This site has a great nut-free trail mix for you to try!

31. Drink up those Warm Autumn Beverages

If you don’t feel like making any beverages yourself, take advantage of the coffee shops out there that go heavy on the seasonal stuff.

You can have hot chocolate, hot apple cider, or the ever-famous pumpkin spice latte (hey, it’s mentioned everywhere for a reason!)

I hope I’ve left you with enough fall-themed activities to get you transitioning to the fall season easily!

You obviously don’t need to add all of them to your fall to-do list, but if you’re looking for some nice things to do with your weekends, these can help!

Happy autumn season!
